In mid-June, our SWITCH network was delighted to welcome back Sarah Greenaway & Sam Barber from PersonaMe to challenge our members to think about their personal brand. All too often we operate on auto-pilot and become somewhat passive about how our brand is portrayed to others. In many instances we inadvertently allow the likes of Google to compose our digital profile without any direct personal input from us. As with any brand, our personal brand is the meaning and value that other people imbue in it so we have to take active responsibility to be clear about what we want other people to perceive.
PersonaMe took us through a couple of interactive exercises which helped us articulate what we admire in others and then made us realise that these were frequently the elements that we would like others to see in us. Who we are is a blend of our passion, purpose and values, our skills and talents and our value proposition. Interestingly, to explore what we most value, it’s often easier to express what really upsets us and then think about the opposite traits. We all have latent talents, drivers and learned skills but we need to think about how to package these up to tell our story most effectively. It was a much summarised session which would normally take a day but this taster certainly gave us all a lot of food for thought.
