‘Everest In The Alps’ Challenge: Update

Dear Supporters,

I wanted to let you know that Jeremy and I have completed Everest in the Alps 2018 and to thank you for all the support that you have given us and the Brain Tumour Charity. It was a huge motivation to keep us going and this has been a once in a lifetime experience for me, which will not be repeated. It is impossible to do the experience or the cause justice in a short email, but I wanted to try to show my appreciation.

  • Thanks to you and the generosity of our supporters, the team is close to raising £1m to go towards funding vital research into low grade brain tumour research for children. Our team EIA team, raised over £100,000.
  • Due to the “beast from the east”, we delayed the start of day 2 because the temperature was below -30 degrees celsius. This compares to the average temperature at the North Pole of -24 degrees in the coldest months.
  • The team completed 9,008 vertical meters in 4 days, exceeding the height of Everest. On average 9 hours a day climbing, so about 130,000 steps each in total. Try that on the stair master!
  • We slept in mountain huts at altitude. For me, that meant on average 4 hours sleep a night for various reasons…

I am hugely grateful for all the support.

Best wishes,
